Bruce McAleney

brucemcaleny 2012

The WCA mourns the loss of one of our own.

It is with great sadness that we announce Bruce McAleney "The Sweetheart from Sexsmith" passed away suddenly on December 29. He will be missed! Bruce had a way about him. You couldn't help but feel comfortable around him. He was easy going, personable and always smiling. He was a well liked and respected member of our club. Our condolences go out to his family and may your memories comfort you. Bruce will leave a hole in many lives and we will miss him.

In June of 2012, video interviews were done with a number of the WCA Drivers for the 2013 season.  We were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to interview Bruce. You can enjoy the video he created by clicking on the photo below

2008 was Bruce’s first year on the WCA Tour.  With over 30 years of experience running and training Thoroughbreds and Quarterhorses on various tracks throughout western Canada, Bruce could not stay out of the wagon box any longer.  He has been pitted against his son Ryan and his father in law Brian Lewis several times in his racing history—once even in the same race. When asked how he fares against his son, Bruce says, “That depends on if I let him use my horses or not.” He has been married to his wife, Lois, for almost 30 years and they have two children and four grandchildren.   Bruce was raised in Fort. St. John, B.C. and now resides on a ranch east of Clairmont.  He currently owns and operates a tank truck in the oilfield industry and raises and trains race track horses.  The 2011 season saw Bruce finishing 15th in the aggregate standings. 2012 will mark Bruce's fifth year with the club.  He is a huge asset to the WCA both off and on the track.
